Plastic Bags helped Mumbai to Flood

The BBC visited Midway Island for another look at the plastic problem. Those who came to our showing of ‘Message in the Waves’ will be familiar with the sites that reached him.

There is a very good short video on this BBC page which takes a quick round-the-world trip to look at plastic bag pollution and the associated problems.

Apparently, plastic bags blocking the drainage system exacerbated the floods in Mumbai last year.

Fairtrade Film Festival

Chesham (A Fairtrade Town) is holding a film festival for Fairtrade Fortnight today and tomorrow at the Elgiva Theatre.

We will be there selling our lovely Fairtrade (and recycled) cotton bags and our Donna is on the post-film discussion panel for An Inconvenient Truth this evening, so pop along and say Hi and/or see a really interesting film and support Donna at the same time!

From todays Daily Mail

As the Mail reported on Saturday, the prince’s personal spokesman said that he “supports any practical effort to reduce the harm we do to our environment, and if more people use reusable bags instead of plastic carrier bags for their shopping it would make a real difference”.

A Clarence House spokesman yesterday added: “It is such an obviously sensible move.”
